The What, Why and How of This Blog

I like to research, work on and write about things that really matter.

A lot of things matter, yes. It's not hard to find things that matter. The challenge is in identifying what deserves our attention the most.

I spend a lot of time asking myself questions like: What matters the most in life? What is the best thing for me to be doing? What should be the foremost priorities to devote my time, energy and resources to?

These are hard questions. Superlatives are often the most difficult assertions to justify. But by definition, they are the ones which deserve our greatest attention.

My writing focusses on topics such as...

  • How to accomplish more of what you care about
  • How to make sense of life and live coherently
  • How to enable culture to thrive
  • How to create systems and processes that work
  • How to thrive in a changing technological environment
  • How to make effective choices

I've spent my life trying to figure out satisfying answers to these kinds of questions.

The ideas I write about are usually not my own. After all, great ideas are rarely new. They are concepts which I discover, consolidate and refine, over countless hours of research and experimentation. I study a range of fields, including psychology, physics, politics, business and economics, history, theology, computer science and philosophy, among others.

I don't have everything figured out - not by a long shot! But I do believe that important things are worth sharing.

Not only that, but we all have a duty to share them. Living a coherent, meaningful and effective life should not be a privilege for those on the inside, but a free choice available to us all.

This website is my best attempt at sharing with you what matters to me, and therefore, if I may, what I think should matter to you.

It's a work-in-progress. I regularly update many of these blog posts as my thoughts and insights evolve. They are there for my own benefit as much as others'.

The general principles which govern what I write about and how I present it are:

  • Clarity and conciseness - 'Omit needless words'
  • Actionable and effective
  • Mutually-consistent
  • Reasoned and well-informed
  • Important, not trivial

I love to hear from my readers, so if you have something you'd like to share please do not hesitate to email me or send me some anonymous feedback.

I sincerely hope you benefit from what I share.
